i would bet that in real life those clouds were not that interesting... but this HDR really brings out the beauty. great shot.

Why are here lately so many boring uploads and there are some very nice shots in the loupe (like piece of mind,a touch of red,swissness,sandy or abstract lights-rainbow) that are not uploaded. Im not saying that this is bad wallpaper but there are many nicer shots in the loupe.

What you said is common in HDR photos. One needs to know when to stop bringing the details. Sometimes it's deliberately overused as a form of experimental art. HDR introduced a new degree of freedom in photography. Also the output depends on the beginning composition.
I don't think there has been any misuse in this photo, the glimpse of light through the clouds is perfectly captured in the rocky region which makes the composition special. I don't see any ghosting artifacts or objectionable noise, entire photo is sharp, the detailed spiral pattern in the clouds emphasizes the stormy weather, accentuated by the color of the water. My verdict is very well done HDR.
