Wallpaper Details: Water Drops On The Rainbow
Water Drops on the Rainbow
By FatChuang
March 19th, 2009
I found this beautiful reflection while playing around with a macro-shot of water drops. It is a typical DVD-R disc's recording side using a LED flashlight as the light source. This photo is taken with Micro-NIKKOR 55mm lens, f/8.

Its a cool pic but kinda hurts my eyes. Not great for a wallpaper for me.

I have to agree that the droplet contrast seems a bit harsh. I think this works better on the desktop in B/W. Otherwise interesting, but maybe a tad too busy?

Looks like a bunch of random stuff on the screen to me. Sorry. Maybe either the droplets or the rainbow, but not both on top of each other.

I've always thought that CDs have an awesome reflection and would make excellent art and you have captured that well. The droplets are incredibly sharp (which is awesome) and create interest in the image but I would be keen to see one without the droplets too.

its pretty intense, i ended up seeing how it would look a little more desaturated, far easier on the eyes, makes for a better wallpaper

thanks for the comments :).
The color is un-touched from the original shot with a lilltle contrast adjustment, but I agree that they may be too intense for a wallpaper (although the whole effect is pretty cool).
It's my first try, and I think I always have a lot to learn.

*FatChuang* - that's exactly how I'd put it myself. Far too much going on for a wallpaper (it actually hurts my eyes), but it's a pretty cool concept and effect.

I love that those colors are unaltered; they're so brilliant. I can see what some are saying about it being a bit harsh, but my background is often set by what music I'm listening to, and I listen to some pretty psyched out stuff. So, this is definitely going in my wallpaper folder for future reference :)

I like this shot. The idea is so similar to something I submitted long time ago, but Interfacelift staff never posted it :) http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6098/p10009682.jpg

If anyone is interested I made a version of this for myself. I discarded the color information in Photoshop and added 60% Deep Blue photo filter.

I borrowed another lens, tried a different setup, and some new photos have been uploaded to my flickr. Feel free to leave me any comment or even you like it to be submitted as a wallpaper :).
