The Spectrum of the Sky

How various the colors of the sky can be, you can see on this picture I created from nine of my favorite shots since 2008. Enjoy!

Very cool, your next project could be to find a spot, and take pictures of various weather from exactly the same spot and then putting them together!
Love the colors!

Wow. This is so professional and conceptually brilliant. I think any advertising agency would scoop up this image in an instant. The fact that it is commercially desirable in no way detracts from its artistic merit. "Please sir, I want some more." (Oliver Twist).

more space given to the pictures themselves and less space given to the black backing but apart from that small easy to fix problem I have with it this is really a very professional quality picture.

Needs a tiny bit of contrast between the reflections at the actual picture as your eye is chasing the picture all over the screen. Still good work though. =)

It's been long I didn't see something really new around here. Very nice layout. This is my home desktop for now. Keep up the great work.

This is superb! I love the concept, it's fresh and original, crisp and clean. However, I wish that the photos took up a little more verticle space on the screen and I'm not sure if I'm sold on the half blue half black background. I think extending them, especially upward and switching to all black would make this a stronger image. That said this is still wonderful and is now my desktop at 2560x1600.

Thank you very much for all your nice comments!
I made three new versions of the wallpaper for those of you, who thought it might need a black background instead and one special version! ;-)
Black version of "The Spectrum of the Sky":

I'll start by saying awesome concept and design, but I personally would love to see it with a slight dissolve on the "window" frames to blend a little with the background. The sharp edges with a natural theme sort of threw me off. Great either way though, nice stuff

Does anybody realize the dullness of the background? I think the pictures in the center are incredible but the plain background detracts me from it. IMO I would rather have a desktop picture that is 100% beautiful. I'm not saying there's an easy way out because if the background was too detailed then the center would lose meaning. I feel there is a cheapness to the picture because of the contrast between well crafted shots put on a plain background.

Although I like this very much, there are two things that I feel don't work. In the third picture from the right, the mountain seems much too large and prominent - in comparison with the others - and this tends to make this strip dominate instead of working with the others. The other thing is that, for me, the difference in detail between the red/orange/yellow skies on the left, and the blue/purple skies to the right, also spoils the balance as those on the right are much more fine and realistic. It's a good idea, though and has given me some ideas of my own!

"more space given to the pictures themselves and less space given to the black backing"
I disagree,.. since this is supposed to be a desktop wallpaper,..
This background is perfect, and leaves room for placing icons or schortcuts.
best background ever imo

This is an incredible picture! I'll stick with it for a while. Just a minor gripe, though, on the third panel from the right, at the top, the edges seem to loose their crispness. This might just be compression, but it bugs me a bit. Otherwise, fantastic job!

Why not make each individual picture larger to fit the size of the screen, thus removing the large portion of plain background from the top and sides?
