Boat Ramp

October 17th, 2008

Sunset at a small reserve in Pakuranga, Auckland. I used an ND8 filter to get a longer exposure and a reverse GND8 to hold back the bright sky.

I think your portfolio is very impressive but this submission didn't do it for me the symmetry of a man made object like a hand railing obscured the beauty of the back grounds natural environment, it seems to detract from the pictures overall beauty , everything was perfect but the boat ramp railing actually spoiled things I think.

I think it's an awesome picture with beautiful colors.
@slippery
Without the ramp, it's almost another sunset picture.

The handrail adds just the right perspective, beckoning you into the salubrious aquamarine water.

Very nice. Know the name of the reserve by any chance?

@Cameron, sorry, don't know the name of the reserve, but it's near Fisher Parade road if that helps.

I don't think the rail detracts from nature's beauty. There are already boats and signs of life elsewhere in the picture, so it is already not a 'pure' nature shot. That's what I like about it. For me, the way the handrail is positioned, I can imagine it is there for me and I can step into the picture and enjoy the wonderful view - boats, distant houses and all. I like the way you show signs of human life in your shots sometimes, Chris. There are plenty of beautiful, uninhabited and uninhabitable places on Earth to photograph. It's good to see wonderful places that people actually live in and the beauty that touches their lives. Thanks for sharing it with us.
